Meet Dejan Varagic, O.D.
Dr. Dejan Varagic grew up in Portland, Maine, and is excited to return home to care for patients in the community that helped shape him. He provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, with a focus on making each visit comfortable, informative, and tailored to individual needs. Dr. Varagic is passionate about helping patients see their best and feel confident and supported throughout every step of their eye care journey. He is thrilled to be part of the team at Maine Optometry and looks forward to welcoming new and returning patients.
Education & Training
Dr. Varagic earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine before continuing his education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated with honors as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, earning both his Doctor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science in Vision Science.
During his clinical training, Dr. Varagic completed externships at Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale and Omni Eye Services in Atlanta, where he gained extensive hands-on experience managing a wide range of eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal diseases. He also completed additional training in pediatrics and specialty contact lenses at The Eye Institute in Davie, Florida.
Dr. Varagic is a proud member of the American Optometric Association and the Maine Optometric Association and remains committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centered eye care.

Care Philosophy
Having trained in a variety of clinical settings across the country, Dr. Varagic brings a well-rounded perspective to patient care. He prioritizes clear, straightforward communication and takes time to help patients understand their eye health so they feel informed, comfortable, and empowered to make decisions about their care.
Outside the office, Dr. Varagic enjoys spending time at the beach, exploring Portland’s vibrant food scene, fishing along the Maine coast, and traveling. He also values quality time with family and friends, which helps keep him connected to the community he proudly serves.
