Melissa Young, O.D., is a skilled and compassionate optometrist at Maine Optometry. She is currently accepting new and returning patients at our Freeport location.

Dr. Young’s Experience

Dr. Young earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of New England and her doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She excelled academically throughout her time in optometry school, graduating summa cum laude and earning clinical honors during her third and fourth-year rotations.

Dr. Young has undergone specialized training at various renowned institutions, each focusing on different aspects of optometry. At The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, she focused on primary care and fitting specialty contact lenses. At New Hampshire’s Eyesight Ophthalmic Services, she concentrated on primary care and treating dry eye conditions. Moreover, she gained valuable experience at both the Lewiston, Maine; and Manchester, New Hampshire Veteran’s Hospitals, where she received extensive training in ocular diseases, particularly emphasizing glaucoma, macular degeneration, and their implications on a patient’s overall systemic health.

She also completed a rotation right here at Maine Optometry!

Dr. Young, a Maine native, takes great pride in her roots and enjoys the simple pleasures that her home state offers. She loves spending leisurely hours at the beach, indulging in photography to capture beautiful moments, and exploring the vibrant restaurant scene in Portland. Most importantly, Dr. Young cherishes quality time spent with her loved ones, whether it’s with her family, friends, or her cat, Bob.
